City

macroscale

There is no doubt about it. The city has exploded and spread the artificial environment, generating the phenomenon of ‘urban sprawl’. The urban metabolism (consisting in nutrition and waste) threatens the environmental balance. Humans’ lives are more and more governed by an uncontrolled post-capitalism system, based on indiscriminate consumption and the use of fossil energy sources.
Our ‘city-scale’ projects recognize that urban pressure is causing very serious damage, producing an urban transformation that often goes against the city itself. Therefore, we seek to ‘build without destroying’ by designing ‘ecotones’.
