It is increasingly common to find tenders that require an environmental certification to demonstrate a certain level of environmental quality. And it’s not just about energy efficiency; certifications like VERDE  (Green Building Council Spain) monitor many more factors in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations in 2015. To this end, VERDE has areas of study that address Site and Location, Energy and Atmosphere, Natural Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Service Quality, and Social and Economic Aspects. This is especially relevant now with the new CTE (Spanish Technical Building Code), where Life Cycle Assessment has become an essential requirement.

At Enmedio, we prepare all the necessary elements to meet the requirements for any environmental certification, and in our case, we decided to become VERDE Assessors to provide firsthand assistance to other professionals in meeting the extensive requirements of this certification. Thus, we not only work to apply these principles to our own projects, but we also help developers, construction companies, and other technical teams achieve their objectives.

To this end, Enmedio draws on extensive research in sustainability, which, combined with a methodology based not only on software but also on common sense, allows us to guide the project toward meeting the certification’s requirements from the very beginning. Only in this way can we achieve satisfactory results, without financial waste, and with carefully measured solutions that aim for excellence.

We cannot dismiss Passivhaus principles as a mere fad; they guarantee optimized energy performance, provided we adapt them to our specific climate.

However, simply applying them on paper doesn’t guarantee good results. A good design can fail due to poor execution, and skilled craftsmanship cannot salvage a flawed project design.

Therefore, it makes sense to separate roles:
Passivhaus Designer: defines strategy, details, windows, ventilation, thermal bridges, etc.
Passivhaus Tradesperson: ensures that critical aspects are executed correctly (sealing, continuity, junctions, on-site quality control).
