New Science Building, University of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca

[Scientia], the proposal for the new Science building, aims to perform as an optimized machine, where each space and element has a clear function to fulfill. Its premises are as following:

A. Functional clarity in circulations and uses.

B. Optimization of circulation spaces, so as not to lose a single square meter.

C. Search for comfort in every space, both classrooms, laboratories and offices, as well as circulation spaces, which end up being the main spaces of coexistence.

In order to achieve this matter, we avoid the typical typology of interior corridors, where circulation is relegated to lower-ranking spaces lacking light and ventilation. On the other hand, transit spaces are dignified by making them outdoor. They become environmental objects where southern galleries will regulate the passive performance of the building, generating pleasant spaces around patios, full of light and vegetation.
