In order to achieve energy efficiency when intervining the traditional house of Cádiz, it is essential to apply the following methodology, based on research carried out by Enmedio Studio.
1. Context and precedents: exhaustive knowledge of the climatic conditions, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the urban context represents for its vernacular architecture.
2. Analytical work: detection of thermal weaknesses, understanding of the traditional patio house typology in order to act efficiently. Simulations allow the economical optimization of the intervention.
3. Improvement measures: proposal of a set of interventions, based on the previous studies, that seek to maximize the bioclimatic strengths of the Cádiz house, mitigate its weaknesses, and extend its free-running performance (without active equipment) for most of the year, minimizing the energy footprint. This helps mitigate the risk of energy poverty among future tenants.
4. Leverage PassivHaus’s EnerPHit methodology to prioritize the intervention, but from a comprehensive perspective throughout the building’s lifespan, not just specific to the intervention targeted for this competition.
